At Shelves and the City, I asked influencers to give me an Indigenous book they would recommend! Shout out to Joshua who wasn’t the only influencers to admit he hadn’t read one, but suggested he talk about it on film! You’ll also notice a lot of repeats! Nothing wrong with that! Great books! My hope is to get people to expand and read more books by Indigenous authors. At an event with over 100 readers, I passed out about 50 book bingo cards and if you didn’t get one and were there, drop a note in our chat and I will mail you one if you want! During this phase, we're reviewing manuscripts and deciding which book we want to publish. At the end of this phase, we offer an author a book deal.

Consideration

As the manuscript goes through several phases of editorial work, the cover and interior design takes place, while format decisions about paper stocks and printing treatments are made.

Editorial & Design

While the books are on press, the pre-order links go live and the marketing campaign ramps up with waves of review copy mailings to media and influencers.

Hi, I’m Naomi @fromthemixedupdesk. I am an Indigenous book content creator who is passionate about championing underrepresented voices in literature. Welcome to Boozhoo Books. Boozhoo means “Hello” in Anishinaabemowin.

Boozhoo Books is a publishing imprint dedicated to uplifting diverse voices. We are currently seeking novel length submissions (never previously published) genre fiction written by Indigenous authors highlighting Native/First Nations stories and horror books written by women (BIPOC encouraged to submit!)
